LYNDHURST AVENUE ACCESS TUNNEL |
These views show the former access tunnel into the Works from Lyndhurst Avenue - a short residential cul-de-sac off the Uxbridge Road. Workers going to AEC on foot or by bicycle used this short cut under the Western Region railway tracks. | The tunnel is fenced off in Lyndhurst Avenue but it is just possible to gain access from within what was the Works - now the Great Western Industrial Park. Some original features remain to this day, such as the handrail and street lights (non-operational), as well as a sign attached to the wicket gate, which survives also. | There was another entrance to the Works off Park Avenue, also under the railway. The tunnel is still there, and the path is a public right of way, but there is no trace of the old entrance into the works now. |
